Time for PEPA Board Elections - looking for a President

After four years of serving as your President, I will be stepping down to take care of family obligations.
When I started PEPA in October, 2021, I was frustrated, as many of us were: gym hours were scant, and there was not one single dedicated pickleball court in all of El Paso County.

Now, four years down the road, we have 15 dedicated public courts, 11 parks with multi-use lines, 16 gyms offering pickleball hours, and 8 courts in the Beast Phase II plan.
Commercially, three facilities have opened and two private clubs are offering pickleball memberships. Nice!

NONE of this has been automatic. Our members have campaigned, preached, badgered, cajoled, and advocated all along the way.
So ...
Where would you like to see the Association go next?
E-mail us at pickleballEP@gmail.com if you would like to run for the Board. We are also looking for volunteers to help with the website, writing newsletter articles, and everything else pickleball. No experience necessary, we can train. I did not know one thing about websites until I jut dove in.

There is also a wealth of career experience out there that our Association could benefit from. And nobody will criticize if you end your sentence with a preposition, like my last one. 🤣
To run for a Board position you must be a member in good standing (dues paid).
Our annual meeting and election will be held in mid-October at Galatzan Rec Center. More information to come.
Senior Games 2025

El Paso Parks and Recreation is holding the Senior Games - pickleball event at Chamizal Recreation Center. Singles were played on Saturday, August 23, Doubles on Sunday, and Mixed Doubles is schedule for this coming Saturday, August 29, beginning at 9AM.

This is the Parks Department's version of the Olympics for people 50 years of age and older. Nineteen events were held beginning February 15, with the final basketball event to be held on September 7. Pickleball turnout was robust with 45 singles entries, 90 doubles and 100 for mixed. In addition to pickleball, events range from golf, tennis, and track and field, to bowling, horseshoes and cornhole. Age divisions started at 50 and increased in 5 year increments up to 90. Pickleball events included men's and women's singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

Ascarate court repair

Thank you to everyone who emailed, called, and went to Commissioner's Court. The (second) repair of the Ascarate PIckleball Courts is scheduled for September 2 - September 12 - that was fast! While they are closed, the adjacent tennis multi-use courts will be available as are the two multi-use futsal courts across from the lake, by the Pavilion.
Check out the multi-use futsal courts. You do not have to deal with balls coming over from another court as they are not adjacent. The County took the fencing around the court down temporarily, but they said they would put it back up and put some portable nets there. If you have a net you might want to take one just in case they don't have them out yet.

Play happy,
Jamie Fisher
